A gear rack is a special gear with teeth distributed on a bar-shaped body. It is equal to a segment of the circumference of a gear with an infinite diameter. There are many teeth evenly distributed on one side, meshing with gears, turning rotation into linear movement, or turning linear movement into rotation. The gear racks are also divided into spur racks and helical racks, which are paired with spur gears and helical gears respectively. The tooth profile of a gear rack is a straight line rather than an involute (for the tooth surface, it is a flat surface). It is equivalent to an infinite cylindrical gear with the index circle radius.

(1) Synchronization mechanism. The synchronization mechanism of a gear rack is generally used in case of cylinder array power, hydraulic cylinder array power to ensure power synchronization and prevent movement mechanism from stalling and uneven motion caused by low processing accuracy.

(2) Movement direction conversion. A gear rack and pinion mechanism is an approach to convert linear motion into circular motion. In practical applications, it can be used with air cylinders and hydraulic cylinders. Under normal circumstances, the linear motion of a gear rack can be installed with linear guides and sliders.

(3) Motion output. A gear rack can be directly used as a motion output component and can be applied to the end effector of a manipulator and a driving mechanism of up and down movement.
